I recently have downloaded trial versions of the Adobe products Illustrator CS3 and Adobe Reade,k and upon installation i have received the following error message
(for Illustrator CS3)
Error 1406.Could not write value PackageMarker to key
SOFTWAREAdobePayloads{07CD1281-D5ED-4BB4-8964-7B4F1F36315C}. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
I got a similar message for Adobe Reader
Even though knowing the 'Adobe' key did not exist in my System Registry i tried to look it up anyway and set permissions for my Win XP account but was met with failure.I am at a loss. I tried looking up solutions for this problem but the only solutions offered were for keys already existing in the System Registry. Also, as a note, i recently downgraded Vista to XP, and i dual-boot with Slackware 12, if that means anything.
Please can someone offer aid. Especially for Illustrator.
Error 1406 Acrobat

Acrobat DC (Subscription), Acrobat 2017 and Acrobat 2015, Trending issues. Download and install Acrobat Pro DC or Standard DC. Update: This review was updated 7/23/19 to cover the tweaks and updates Adobe has made to Acrobat Pro DC. The verdict remains the same. The Adobe Reader which was on my computer for years suddenly disappeared. When I try to download it again an ERROR 1406 message appears, saying it is unable to write in the Key. I am told this is common if you have Webroot installed. How do I overcome this and get back my Adobe Reader? This vid helps Fix 'Error Code 1406. Could not write value DumpCount to key' while trying to install Camtasia on Windows.

Error 1406 occurs mostly when user is tries to install a new program that uses the Windows Installer runtime. Official Microsoft documentation gives almost nothing about this error. Microsoft says error 1406 may happen on extremely ancient Windows versions like Windows 95, 98 or ME because of registry values limit (16,386 on Windows 98, for example). Using Windows Installer runtime 2.0 and newer solves this issue, but not to the modern Windows versions, thus the user has to figure out how to solve Windows Error 1406 during program installation by itself.

How to Solve Windows Error 1406?

This error is related to the Windows registry and indicates that the system can't write required values during the installation process because of insufficient access level. Usually, it says Error 1406. Could not write value to key or Error 1406. Setup cannot write the value to registry key. Here's how to fix this.

First, run installation file as Administrator. Right-click file and press Run as Administrator. If your user has no Administrator privileges, you will have to type in Administrator password.

If the error occurred again, boot your PC in clean boot mode. This method works on all Windows versions from Windows XP up to Windows 10:

  1. Now press Win + R and type regedit. This command opens the Registry Editor. Navigate to the key you need using left panel or address bar;
  2. Right-click on the key and select Permissions;
